Planning “My Sweet 16” Party!

Sweet 16 parties have become a very popular celebration for your teenage girls in recent years.  It is a celebration of girls in the United States and Canada to represent the coming of age. A popular show on MTV called “My Super Sweet 16” is a reality series documenting the lives of teenagers who have wealthy parents who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to give their teenager the over-the-top  Sweet 16 party. 
But for those who do not have wealthy parent and would like to have an extravagant My Sweet 16 party.  In order to plan a Sweet 16 celebration you must be a very organized individual.  If you consider yourself to be an organized individual, here are a few tips to planning your extravagant My Sweet 16 celebration.
Before planning your teenager’s Sweet 16, ask her if she would like to have a party.   Not all teens want to have a Sweet 16 party, let alone have a huge celebration.  Unless it’s a surprise and to plan a huge surprise Sweet 16 party for your teen can be difficult, unless you know all her friends.  Let you teenage assist you in making decisions; after all, it is her special day.
Once your teen has agreed to have a celebration, both of you can now begin the stages of preparing for a spectacular event. Planning this type of event, need a lot of planning time.
Decide on a date and time of the Sweet 16 party.  The average planning time for an extravagant Sweet 16 party is usually 6-8 weeks, depending on your budget.
You would need to decide how many people you are planning to invite.  This could be a task for your teenager, she can create a list of the names and addresses of her friends she would like to attend.  But you as the parent will give the final count. 
Secondly, decide on a theme, now a days teenagers are very creative, having a formal dinner may not be an open idea.  Let your teen decide what type of theme she would like to have.

Once you’ve decided on a theme, you would need to order your invitation to coordinate with your theme.  For instance, if you decided on a formal Sweet 16 party, you would need to order elegant invitations to match your theme.  If you are planning a Safari Sweet 16 theme, you would order Safari Sweet 16 invitations.  When ordering your invitations be sure to order the RSVP card too, that way when you mail out your invitations, your invitee can return the RSVP card back to you.  That way you can keep a count on the amount of people who are guaranteed to attend. It usually takes up to 2 weeks to receive printed invitations.
Choosing the right venue, you’d want to take your time in choosing the right venue.  Create a list of venues in the area you and your teen would like to check out.  Depending on the type of theme your teen has decided on, you would need to find the perfect venue to accommodate the theme.  Catering halls are a great venue for Sweet 16 parties and most of them provide a package which includes food and linens.  Choosing a venue with food packages can ease the stress of cooking the food or hiring a catering service.  And most times you can negotiate the prices of the packages.
If you are planning to cook food, plan a menu and create a shopping list of the food you are planning to prepare the items.
Making a decision about entertainment is simple, most teenagers prefer a DJ.  DJ’s can range in prices. You can locate an affordable DJ on your local http://www.craigslist.org. But shop around.  While you are searching for a DJ, also try to find a photographer or videographer, cost effective to just have a family member take photos and/or video this special event.  But if you don’t know of anyone who you can rely on to take memorable photos, I suggest your hire a professional.
Now that you’ve both decided on a theme and have chosen your venue, you would need to shop for decorations.  Balloons are great decorating ideas for any special event and they are affordable.  Be sure to coordinate your decorating colors with the theme.

Planning an Extraordinary Baby Shower


Having a baby is one of the most exciting life expectancies ever.  Every mother to be wants to celebrate with friends and family with a baby shower.  Planning an extraordinary baby shower is like planning your child’s sweet 16 or your wedding reception. One thing to consider is that you want your guests to leave with “wow that was a great baby shower” or “her baby shower was so unique”.  In other words you want your guests to remember your baby shower for a life time; to be the talk of the town.   You want everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves.  Allow at least 6-8 weeks planning period, I know this may seem long but time creeps up on us fast.  Here are a few tips:



1.       Setting the date and time
Setting the date is simple.  Decide when you want to have your baby shower and between what times.   2 - 2 1/2 hours is usually the average slot time for a baby shower.  Most women plan their baby showers within 45-30 day of their due dates.

2.       Finding the perfect venue
To have an extraordinary baby shower your must find the perfect venue, a place which would accommodate the amount of guest you are planning to attend.  The venue should be supply the tables and linens, not the least and have plenty of parking, valet would be nice.

3.       Registries
It is more convenience for your guests if the mom to be register at 1 or 2 gift registries.

4.       Selecting and sending our invitations
Create a guest list of family and friends. Choosing the perfect color coordination may seem easy, but as women we know we can’t seem to settle the first time, so we are always changing our minds.  Light green, baby blue, baby pink and yellow are the are the normal colors for a baby shower, but for your shower to be extra ordinary you need to choose unique colors such as yellow and brown or baby pink and red or even baby blue and purple. 

6.       Finding decoration ideas
Once you have decided on your colors, now you need to decide how you are going to decorate your venue.  First let’s start off with the table toppers.  Balloons or fresh flowers are a great idea for extraordinary baby shower table tops.  You may also want to consider having baby theme place card holders.  Placing helium balloon with weights at the doors to welcome your guests is also a great idea.  Twisted streamers are also a great decorating idea with hanging balloons.  And don’t forget your wicker chair! 

7.       Choose the games to play
Every baby shower must have baby shower games for entertainment and so your guests can win prizes.  There are many baby shower game to choose from on the internet.  Decide which games you want to play with your guests and don’t forget the games should last at least an hour and save time for gift opening.  At an extraordinary baby shower, you don’t want to give your baby prizes, consider giving out bath and body gifts or gift certificates.
